Willie K. Forest Sponsorship

$50.00

To honor the life and our friendship with William Kahaiali’i, also known as Willie K., Reforest Hawai’i has dedicated a native Hawaiian forest in his name. Please sponsor a Koa tree in memory of this beloved Hawaiian musician. You are welcome to sponsor as many trees as you like.

Koa in Hawaiian means “Warrior”. With heights that reach about 115 feet, the Koa tree is the largest native tree in the Hawaiian Islands. Koa is extremely important to the people of Hawai’i. Koa logs were originally used as canoes. It is now used to make furniture, instruments including guitars and ‘ukulele. The beauty in this wood is very attractive causing it to be highly sought after. It is one of the most expensive woods in the world. Do your part in helping to Reforest Hawai`i by restoring our forests with these Native Hawaiian plants!

We appreciate your support as this is a tax deductible donation through the non-profit, Saving Hawai’i’s Forests 501 (c)(3).

A certificate with GPS coordinates of planting will be emailed for your printing.

• Koa Seedlings Planting
• Site Preparation

Preparing the land for the trees planting is vital for the seedlings survival. The ground needs to cleared of invasive grasses and weeds. An auger is used to break up the soil and prepare the land for planting. Each tree is placed in a precise grid, 15 feet apart from each other ensuring a long life and successful growth. We tend to encounter unique situations here on Hawai’i island with the large land areas covered in lava. Our job is to create the perfect hole for the seedling to thrive. Koa loves the volcanic attributes of the forest along with many other native plants.
